Time Magazine

The January 12 Asian edition of TIME magazine ran a cover story on the production of HERO, China's first big budget martial arts epic. Donnie Yen joined the cast of HERO in December, missing the TIME photo shoot by two days, due to previous commitments in Japan (promotion for the hit film SHURAYUKI HIME, or THE PRINCESS BLADE, which Yen action-directed). In addition to Yen, HERO stars Jet Li (ROMEO MUST DIE, THE ONE), Zhang Ziyi (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, RUSH HOUR 2), and Hong Kong stalwarts Maggie Cheung and Leung Chiu Wai, and is directed by Zhang Yimou (RAISE THE RED LANTERN, NOT ONE LESS). The film is expected to appeal to the same international audience that made CROUCHING TIGER a huge hit. In a related interview, Li explained that he told Zhang "Donnie Yen was the one" to cast if the martial arts sequences were to be as authentic as possible. HERO will be released later this year.
