Yen broke new ground with this action project. Codename: Puma was co-produced by Nostro Film and German entertainment giant RTL. The film was shot entirely on location in Germany. This TV series pilot was barely beaten by the 8:00 news in the ratings (the news having held its time slot for 30 years.

Josh (Micky Hardt) is a young martial arts instructor who runs a dojo in Berlin. When a gang of terrorists take over a near-by skyscraper, Josh finds he is forced to use all his fighting skills to stay alive and save the day.

The producers came to Hong Kong to recruit an action director for the show. After meeting a number of local filmmakers, they settled on actor/director Donnie Yen. Yen put his stunt team together and flew to Berlin, becoming the first Hong Kong filmmaker to work in partnership with a European production company.
